PINE MEADOW, Mundelein, Illinois: This is another Jemsek Golf gem, created out of an old Catholic seminary course (ca. 1929). Joe J. leased the land from the Catholic Archdiocese and transformed the dormant course into a championship layout. This is where I met Joe and he let me play a free round before the course even opened. He had 6 or 7 courses, but he seemed proudest of this one. At least this is the one he hung out at. The great public golf advocate died in 2002 at the age of 89. Pine Meadow was voted the best new public course in America in 1986 by Golf Digest, a well deserved honor.
